Celebrate: (trans. verb)

A. to perform (a sacrament or solemn ceremony) publicly and with appropriate rites
B. (1) to honor (as a holiday) especially by solemn ceremonies or by refraining from ordinary business
    (2) to mark (as an anniversary) by festivities or other deviation from routine
C. to hold up or play up for public notice
——————
after the events that transpired this afternoon, i’m going to go with D. all of the above.
as in, “today, we celebrated.”

we counted our blessings more times than we could count
we exclaimed, “YAY!!!” until we got tired of the noise (which, trust me, took quite a while!)
we realized how fortunate we all are to have a clean bill of health- a bill that does not read “melanoma” but instead reads “benign” (!!!)
we acknowledged how different our day-to-day lives would have been had radiation & chemotherapy entered our lives as soon as tomorrow
we hugged more often
we smiled a little wider
we grew a little closer
& our pre-scheduled afternoon pedicure quickly shifted from an afternoon of relaxation to an afternoon of gratitude, goodness, & a very extraordinary cause for bright, celebration-colored toes.

a month ago, we found out that a biopsy would be needed.
a week ago, the surgery was performed.
today, the good GREAT news arrived!

everything about today holds different value,
everything about tomorrow sounds more hopeful,
& everything about life feels so much more at peace.

today, we celebrated.
tonight, we go to bed with an extremely renewed appreciation.
tomorrow, we remember it all & thank God we’re given another day.
